Makam Raja Ayang Brunei

This a tale, a actually tale a true story, but gained legendary status due to the mystery story surrounding it
In the heart of the nations capital, along jalan Elizabeth II lies the Raja Ayang mausoleum. The story of Raja Ayang is recounted through oral history as a tale of forbidden love between two siblings.
Raja Ayang was a member of the royal family during the rule of sultan Sulaiman. It was discovered that she had been carrying on an unnatural relationship with her siblings living together as a husband and wife.

The couple’s unlawful relation was punishable by death. but sultan sulaiman, although a strict Islamic ruler did not have a heart to carry out the sentence and with this. It was decided that they would be punished by banishment to an underground cavern in the forest cut off from society for the rest of their living life's, they were given supplies of food and cooking utensils to  carry on living in the underground
Out the rest of their days and were provided air ventilation through a chimney which were made. The chimney served to show whether Raja Ayang was still alive for as long as smoke could be seen coming out of the chimney, it would mean that there was still life in the shelter.

Historical accounts vary on how long they survived in there with some saying and claiming that it was only for one week while others say it was for about forty days

Accounts also differ  on who was actually sent to live there ,some claims that the siblings were  sent to their isolated chambers, some claims Raja Ayang went alone, there are also claims  that raja Ayang  ladies (dayang –dayang) were sent to be punished with here .
